Directions to The Lake Norris Lake Retreat Center Headquarters (Chalet, Cottage and Lighthouse) * From Interstate 75 take Exit 134 toward LaFollette. * At the first light (just after you exit) set your odometer. * Go about 6 miles to Hunters Branch Road (you'll see the American Legion sign on right). Turn right and set odometer again. * Go to a stop sign (at the T about .5 of a mile) and turn right on Demory Road. * Continue on Demory, over a bridge (at 1.2 miles) and past Fat Bear Tavern (on right at 2.5 miles). At 5.2 miles you'll pass Demory Mart (on left). Bear to the right. * When you come to a Y bear right again on to Grantsboro Road. * At 7.2 miles you'll pass Sharp's Grocery Store (on the right). [Note: If going to the Lighthouse follow the directions to this point and then skip down to Directions to Lighthouse.] * Immediately after Sharp's Grocery, turn right on Chestnut Stump Road and go to the first road to the left called Axley. * Turn left on Axley (it's only one lane!), follow it to Big Creek Road (at the T at 8.3 miles--sometimes the street sign is missing). * Turn right on Big Creek Rd. and set the odometer again. * Go .3 miles to the top of the second hill and you'll see The Lake Norris Retreat Center's Chalet on the left (1105 is on black mailbox). It's the big blue house with a stone porch. The Cottage is at 1155 Big Creek--the next house on the left (Grey with window boxes & carport). Directions to Lighthouse: After turning right at Sharp's Grocery on to Chestnut Stump Road, continue on Chestnut Stump Road until you come to a Y. Chestnut Stump goes to right, you will want to go straight on Country Oaks. At the intersection turn right on Fox Lake Road. When Fox Lake Road makes an 90 degree turn to the right, go straight on Fox Lane. The Lighthouse is at the end of the road. 135 Fox Lane. (The Lighthouse is only 2 miles from the Chalet.) You can drive to the Chalet by taking Fox Lake Road back toward Country Oaks, then go straight through that intersection and follow Big Creek Road signs until you come to 1105 Big Creek Road.
Directions for launching boats: The closest public year-round launching ramp is at Whitman Hollow Marina. You will see the sign to the right when you are on Demory Road. When leaving Whitman Hollow via boat, bear to the left, we are in the third cove on left after the #6 sign on the lake. (At the #6 sign do not go toward the main channel that takes you to the dam.) Our boat dock has a vacation rental sign on it with our phone number and a yellow tube slide from the top deck. If you are launching during high water, there is a community launch ramp closer to our home. Follow the directions to Axley. Instead of turning right on Big Creek Road to come to the Chalet and Cottage, go straight (a slight left) on Big Creek Road. After Race Track Road sign (on left) you will see a metal industrial building on the left. The boat ramp is the first driveway to the right after the metal building. (It usually has a very small sign there.) You may want to walk down the ramp first to make sure it is safe to launch your boat. It is difficult to back the boat down the ramp from the direction you were coming, so go past the ramp until you find a large turn-around area where there are two driveways with pine log entrances on the right. Maps of Norris Lake should be available in each of the homes, if not they will be at our office in the Chalet . There is plenty of parking and a place to leave your boat trailers at each of the retreat homes.
The Lake Norris Retreat Center's Homes are located 1 1/4 hour from Knoxville Airport. 20 minutes from downtown LaFollette (and a small airport--3500 ft. runway). 40 minutes from the Appalachia Museum. Less than 2 hours from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge's outlet malls, theaters and Dollywood. Other attractions in the area: Lake Norris Dam, Cove Lake Park, great hiking, four wheeling and dirt bike trails. We're looking forward to seeing you!
